Richard Williams, popularly known by his stage name Prince Ea, is an American spoken word artist, poet, and filmmaker born on September 16th, 1988, in St Louis, Missouri, United States. After graduating from the University of Missouri–St. Louis with a degree in anthropology, he initially pursued a career as a hip hop artist. Inspired by artists like Immortal Technique and Canibus, he started and popularized the "Make S.M.A.R.T Cool" movement to promote values like intelligence, free thought, unity, and creativity in hip hop music and culture.

Prince Ea was born into the family of three, where he happens to be youngest. Prince Ea spent his whole life in St. Louis, Missouri. He first started working under the stage name "Prince Ea" when he graduated magna cum laude in Anthropology from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. "Prince Ea" is derived from Sumerian mythology meaning "The Prince of the Earth".

Prince Ea actually started his career in 2005. He released the mixtape “The Adolescence” on the internet in 2008. That was kept for free download on the internet. Soon, after the release, he entered into a Vibe magazine contest by recording an amateur video of himself rapping. He won the contest and was awarded $5000.
Prince Ea is also remembered for his initiative: The “Make ‘SMART’ Cool” movement. He decided to form this movement in 2009 because he was upset with the then music industry. This movement was started to promote free thought, intelligence, unity and creativity in hip-hop music industry and hip hop culture. In the same year, he won a Funk Volume competition too. The win stemmed from his success on YouTube. After that, he was declared as the first hip-hop artist to have a feature on the magazine “Discover”.
Prince Ea had developed few videos until 2011. Luckily, his video gained attention from one of his inspirations, Black Thought. Consequently, they collaborated. During the same year, he won the Riverfront Times “Best hip-hop artist in St. Louis, Jae Millz contest, Magnum Trojan Live Large Contest and Juicy J underground search contest.

In 2014, Prince Ea shifted his focus from music to creating motivational and inspirational spoken word films and content. His YouTube videos have received over a billion views. These types of videos include topics such as environmentalism, race, work–life balance and spirituality. He credits his shift in perspective to the inspiration of ancient wisdom texts such as the Tao Te Ching and Bhagavad Gita.

In 2016, Prince Ea was criticised by English YouTuber Boyinaband on the grounds that he doesn't provide sources for his assertions. Ea's claims criticised by Boyinaband include that "the average person spends 4 years looking down at his cellphone", claiming that depression is simply a state of mind and being aware of depression is proof of not being depressed while simultaneously stating that in a decade depression will be the leading cause of death, that studies have shown that the average adult has an attention span a second lower than a goldfish, that watching short videos cause ADD and that genetically modified food is harmful. However, in the video referenced below, he categorically denied all of Boyinaband's claims, showing the sources (which were mainly webpages and blogs) for each specific claim and calling into question Boyinaband's "hours of research". He was also criticised for the large amount of clickbait that he shares on his Facebook page without disclosing that he is likely paid for the traffic generated to the clickbait articles and the fact that he claims that social media has a bad influence while at the same time having such a large presence on social media. Prince Ea responded to the criticism by claiming his critics have HIV, which he redefines as "Hate In Veins" and that Boyinaband was jealous of Ea's success and made criticism videos of him to attract views.

Prince Ea said  "The Suffering & Unhappiness Was so much that I stopped making music and decided that I simply wanted to be happy. This is when I began to read ancient and modern texts on spirituality. I became enthralled in everything from the Baghavad Gita to the Tao te Ching. Through literature and introspection I realized that “doing” will never make me happy, it is only in “being” where happiness and peace arises.

In 2009, Prince Ea got upset at the present state of the music industry, which he decided to form a movement named "Make 'SMART' Cool". The "Make 'SMART' Cool" movement (SMART is an acronym for "Sophisticating Minds And Revolutionizing Thought") attempts to "promote intelligence to everyone, everywhere and integrate it with hip-hop. To create and nurture, without discrimination or preference, a community of free-thinking individuals under the singular purpose of promoting the ideals of education, intelligence, unity and creativity throughout the world at large."

A successful underground clothing line for the movement, which includes T-shirts and sweaters, was released and has gained support from artists such as newly signed So So Def producer Mike Kalombo. Artists supporting the movement include Traphik, Sha Stimuli, August Rigo.
